primetime is a classic startup, yet very different; from the beginning we worked with big fish like Microsoft and Intel.
We, Mesut and Şenol Güngör, were inspired in July 2002 by Bill Gates’ idea to put a so-called media center in every living room, a device that makes all other entertainment devices in the living room superfluous and also retains all the functions of a PC.
As early as September 2002, we developed a working prototype in our living room. We sent it to Microsoft Switzerland and they could not believe their eyes; at that time this operating system together with the hardware could not even run in Switzerland! OUR modifications and improvements, however, had made it possible! They verified our prototype and that was the birth of the first Swiss Windows Media Center, the coolest, most user-friendly and technologically significant in-room entertainment system.
Since Microsoft only works with companies, we couldn’t avoid founding a company. Finally, the time had come! On the day of the foundation in spring 2004, on the way to the notary’s office, we literally stepped onto the ice, which almost broke our necks. But we survived and with us our baby “Prime Time Media Entertainment GmbH” and later “Prime Time AG”, our small but fine family business. As young entrepreneurs alongside the giants Fujitsu-Siemens and Toshiba, we introduced the Media Center in Switzerland in October 2004 together with Microsoft Switzerland and started selling online. Our motto is always: keep it simple – one device with one remote control for all media throughout the house. This is still our successful model today, 19 years later.
